Former Coquitlam mayor gives $600k to build PoCo home for disabled young adults

Port Coquitlam Community Foundation is pleased to announce a philanthropic gift of $600,000 from Maxine Wilson for the Wilson Family Community Fund to support initiatives and projects that will produce a positive outcome for the citizens of Port Coquitlam. In particular, the purpose of the Fund is to contribute towards the planning and construction, and other associated activities, of a building project designed for the housing of young adults with disabilities, including mental health disabilities, to be situated in Port Coquitlam. Maxine is passionate about building caring communities through philanthropic gifts and donations.

Foundation Chair, Dawn Becker had this to say about the gift, “The Port Coquitlam Community Foundation continues to connect caring and community. Maxine and family, thank you for your support of our mission and vision to make Port Coquitlam a better place for all to live.”

The Port Coquitlam Community Foundation is a leader in community based philanthropy. Together with their sponsors and donors like the Wilson Family, the foundation invests in projects and programs that strengthen the community of Port Coquitlam. Since 2014 The Port Coquitlam Community Foundation has provided grant and scholarship funding to 85 community groups and individual recipients for a total $192,971 investment in the community.

The Port Coquitlam Community Foundation community granting program starts February 1st with applications accepted until March 15th. Projects are encouraged to apply in the areas of arts & culture, sports & recreation, health & wellness, environment, education and social services. Information to be posted on the Foundation website ww.pocofoundation.com starting February 1st.
